Adobe and Microsoft have partnered to enhance the experience of reading and working with PDF files for Microsoft Windows users. The two companies aim to provide users with a high-quality PDF experience by integrating Adobe Acrobat’s PDF technology into Microsoft Edge. The updated PDF reader in Microsoft Edge will be powered by the Adobe Acrobat PDF engine, resulting in improved performance, better visual accuracy, and enhanced security measures for PDF handling.
This integration will bring new features to Microsoft Edge’s built-in PDF reader, including more accurate colours and graphics, improved text selection, and the ability to read documents aloud for greater accessibility. Additionally, these new capabilities will be available for free to all users. By joining forces, Adobe and Microsoft are taking a significant step forward in their goal of transforming the way people work with digital content and furthering their commitment to making technology accessible to everyone.
While basic features are free, users who want more advanced features such as editing, converting, and combining files can purchase an Acrobat subscription. Existing subscribers can use the Acrobat extension in Edge at no extra cost. This integration allows Windows 10 and Windows 11 users to access Adobe’s top-notch PDF capabilities within Microsoft Edge without switching to a separate application. The partnership aims to enhance the digital work and life experience in the age of digital transformation.
The integration of Adobe Acrobat’s PDF technology into Microsoft Edge will begin gradually, starting with an optional opt-in for managed devices. The current Microsoft Edge PDF solution, which uses a different engine, will be phased out and will no longer be available after March 2024.
