UN chief, security council calls for justice
Condemning the attack in “strongest possible terms”, UN chief Antonio Guterres said that he “conveys his deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people and the Government of the Russian Federation.”
Urging all states to cooperate with Russia, the security council said that the responsible authorities hold perpetrators of “these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.”
‘Had warned Russia of possible terror attack on large gatherings’
The United States had warned Russia of possible attack on “large gatherings” and had “shared this information with Russian authorities,” under its “duty to warn” policy, White House said.
“Earlier this month, the US government had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow –- potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts” and Washington “shared this information with Russian authorities,” National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson informed.
Calling the attack terrible, White House spokesman John Kirby said, “The images are just horrible and just hard to watch and our thoughts obviously are going to be with the victims of this terrible, terrible shooting attack.”
Putin wishes the victims ‘speedy recovery’
Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the wounded victims of the gun attack in Moscow speedy recovery.
“The president wished everyone a speedy recovery and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors,” Tatyana Golikova was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
However, the Russian President is yet to comment publicly on the attack.
India stands with ‘Russian Federation and its people’
Terming the attack “heinous”, PM Narendra Modi said in a post on X, “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the Russian Federation in this hour of grief,” he added.
‘Background must be clarified quickly’
Highlighting the “horrific” nature of the attack, the German foreign ministry said, “The images of the horrific attack on innocent people at Crocus City Hall near Moscow are horrific. The background must be clarified quickly. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims.”
Ukraine denies involvement in attack
Denying any involvement in the attack, Ukraine said, “Let’s be straight about this: Ukraine had absolutely nothing to do with these events.”
“We have a full-scale, all-out war with the Russian regular army and with the Russian Federation as a country. And regardless of everything, everything will be decided on the battlefield,” Mykhailo Podolyak, Ukranian presidential adviser added.
France expresses solidarity with Russia
Expressing solidarity with the Russian Federation, French President Emmanuel Macron said he “strongly condemns the terrorist attack claimed by the Islamic State.”
“France expresses its solidarity with the victims, their loved ones and all the Russian people,” the French presidency said.
