Popular messaging app WhatsApp banned more than 65 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of May. The company has banned these accounts in compliance with the new IT Rules 2021. The meta-owned platform banned a total of 6,508,000 WhatsApp accounts between May 1 and May 31.
During the month of April, WhatsApp, with its user base exceeding 500 million in India, took action against a staggering number of over 7.4 million problematic accounts. In May, the widely-used messaging platform received 3,912 grievance reports, including appeals for lifted bans, and addressed 297 of these cases.
The term “Accounts Actioned” refers to reports in which WhatsApp took appropriate measures based on the received report. Taking action can involve either banning an account or restoring a previously banned account as a result of the report. “This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform,” according to the company.
What to do if your WhatsApp account is banned
In case your WhatsApp account is banned then you will notice a message which reads, “This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp.” If you think that your account has been banned by mistake, then you can email WhatsApp or can also tap request a review in the app. When you request a review in the app, you’ll be prompted to enter a 6-digit registration code sent to you via SMS. Once you’ve entered it, you’ll be able to submit your request for a review and add details to support your case.
