India vs West Indies 1st Test Highlights: Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s 33rd fifer (5 for 60 in 24.3 overs) put team India in the driver’s seat against hosts West Indies on Day 1 of India vs West Indies 1st Test in Dominica on Wednesday (July 12). Ashwin and Jadeja (3/26 in 14 overs) made life miserable for the hosts on a pitch that aided bounce and turn right from 1st session of the match. The spin duo’s bowling heroics restricted West Indies for a lowly 150 in 64.3 overs. At Stumps on Day 1, Rohit Sharma (30 batting, 65 balls) and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 batting, 73 balls) added 80 runs for first wicket to bring down first innings deficit to 70 going into day 2.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, West Indies were bowled out for 150 runs in the first innings. Alick Athanaze scored the maximum 47 runs from the hosts. For India, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took the maximum 5 wickets, Jadeja took 3; fast bowlers Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur bagged a wicket apiece. Team India put 80 runs on the board in their first innings without losing a wicket by end of Day 1’s play of IND vs WI 1st Test.

West Indies looked good in the beginning but, till lunch, the team lost four wickets for 68 runs. After this, 8 West Indies batters returned to the pavilion for mere 137 runs, before Tea break i.e the second session. In the third and final session, Windies’ lower-order batters failed to show any resistance and got all out for 150 runs, with more than hour remaining for end of final session.

West Indies tried all their five bowling options but Rohit Sharma (unbeaten 30 in 65 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (unbeaten 40 in 73 balls) looked ominous, helping their team notch up 80 for no loss at stumps on the opening day.
