The build-up to Indian Premier League 2024 has already begun. A couple of never-seen-before trades after the retention deadline day has only added fuel to the fire. A mini-auction, scheduled for Tuesday, December 19 in Dubai, will allow franchisees to plug the holes and prepare themselves to mount a title challenge in the 17th edition of the fast-growing T20 league.

The IPL 2024 mini-auction also sees the bidding wars held overseas for the first time in the nascent history of the IPL. Also, Mallika Sagar, who conducted the Women’s Premier League auction earlier in the month in Bengaluru, will become the first female auctioneer in the IPL.
Most teams have a strong core ahead of the mini-auction, but there are exciting names, both local and overseas, that will be up for grabs on Tuesday. With a mega auction coming up in 2025, it will be interesting to see if teams would be willing to spend big money in the mini-auction on Tuesday. For the first time in the history of the league, a couple of mega trade deals were done. Hardik Pandya was named as Mumbai Indians captain after he was traded from Gujarat Titans while Cameron Green was traded by MI to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

IPL Auction 2024: How many players are available for bidding?
Well, a total of 333 players were shortlisted by the 10 franchises after more than 1000 players registered. Teams have a total of only 77 slots to fill in the mini-auction on Tuesday.
214 Indian players are set to go under the hammer and 119 are overseas players. A total of 116 capped players (those who have played international cricket) and 215 uncapped players are part of the auction pool. 2 players are from the associate nations.
England have the maximum representation among overseas stars with 25 players while Australia are next on the list with 21 players. David Wiese of Namibia and Paul van Meekeran of the Netherlands are the two only players from associate nations.
IPL Auction 2024: What is a base price and how have the players been categorised?
The 333 players have been categorised according to their specialisation (batters, bowlers (pacers, spinners), all-rounders, and wicketkeepers).
Each player has set himself a base price, based on the criteria set for capped and uncapped players.
The highest base price bracket is Rs 2 crore and 23 players have slotted themselves in the said category. Only 3 of them are Indians.
The second-best base price bracket is Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 1 crore, Rs 75 lakh, Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, and Rs 30 lakh for the next set of players. Rs 20 lakh is the lowest base price category.
