Mustafizur Rahman became the only Bangladesh cricketer to be picked in the auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm pacer was bought at his base price of INR 2 crore by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the auction that took place in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.

Mustafizur was one of the three Bangladeshi cricketers who registered in the auction, along with Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam. However, Taskin and Shoriful, reportedly, pulled out of the tournament. Mustafizur is, in fact, the only Bangladeshi cricketer in IPL 2024 after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das.
Mustafizur’s name came only in the accelerated round where the five-time champion secured his services. With the Bangladeshi speedster, the Super Kings have another quality overseas fast bowler apart from Matheesha Pathirana.
“He is a perfect buy. He won’t play all matches, but they will pick and choose the surfaces that he will play. With his cutters and slower ones, Mustafziur can be a handy option for Chennai Super Kings,” Mike Hesson was quoted as saying.
Mustafizur is currently in New Zealand, where the Tigers are currently taking part in the three-match ODI series. He had an off day in the first ODI at the University Oval in Dunedin, where he finished with figures of 6-0-47-0. He will be looking to make amends in the second ODI on Wednesday, December 20 at the Saxton Oval in Dunedin.
The seamer was a part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) before being released. Mustafizur remains the only foreigner to win the Emerging Player of the IPL back in 2016 when the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won the title. In 48 IPL matches, the left-arm pacer has picked up 47 wickets at an economy rate of 7.93.
