Beeper tried to bring iMessage to Android with Beeper Mini, but Apple‘s strict guidelines made it difficult. The app has been removed from the Google Play Store, and the Beeper team acknowledged they could not make it work seamlessly on Android.
9to5Google reports that the app has been removed from the Play Store, and the team has informed its users about the decision through a message on Beeper Cloud. Even though the app is no longer available through the Play Store, Beeper is not done with it. The iMessage feature from Beeper Mini has been moved to the ‘Labs’ section in the Beeper Cloud app.
The message to Beeper Cloud users stated that We have moved iMessage to ‘Labs’ in Beeper Cloud and removed Beeper Mini from the Play Store”
Apple blocked the app a week after its release, citing the use of fake credentials. Beeper has since been trying different ways to make the app work, and the company even made the app free.
In a message to Beeper users, Eric Migicovsky, the CEO of Beeper, updated users on the company’s future plans. He told users that the company is currently working on migrating its other chat app services from Cloud to Mini and is also developing a major performance boost to its desktop app.
“Our #1 priority right now is the Beeper Android app. As we explained in our Product Roadmap post, our beautiful and fast Beeper Mini app is now the foundation of the brand new Beeper Android app. We’re currently in the process of adding all 14 other chat networks in. It’s a completely new app, with a new design, built for top speed and performance. Android friends – get excited.
We’re also working on a big performance boost for Beeper Desktop, improvements to the Linkedin, Instagram, and Google Messages bridges, among many other things!”
Last year, Nothing also had to take down its iMessage app, Nothing Chats app, which it introduced in collaboration with Sunbird, over security concerns.
