After their T20I series against India, Afghanistan are set to lock horns with Sri Lanka and Ireland in an all-format series in February and March.
Afghanistan will play against Sri Lanka in a one-off Test, starting February 2 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Thereafter, the Asian giants will cross swords in a 3-match ODI series from February 9 onwards before the T20Is, which starts on February 17 in Dambulla.
After the conclusion of their Sri Lanka tour, Afghanistan will go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they will face Ireland in a Test, ODI and T20I series. The one-off Test is scheduled to take place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The ODIs between Afghanistan and Ireland will take place on March 7, 9 and 12 before the T20I series gets underway on March 15.
With plenty of T20Is for them in the next 2 months, it is clear that Afghanistan don’t want to leave any stone unturned before the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States of America.
“The year 2024 is a very busy and full of high-voltage competitions for the Afghanistan national team”, Naseeb Khan, the Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO, was quoted as saying.
“The upcoming tours of India, Sri Lanka, and then the home series against Ireland will help us to prepare the team for the much-important T20 World Cup. (We’re) eagerly looking forward to the multiple series,” he stated.
Afghanistan’s series against India will be played from January 11 to 17. The PCA Stadium in Mohali, Holkar Stadium in Indore and M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore will host the three matches.
