Apple is offering discounts on its latest iPhones in China, which is quite a rarity. On its official Chinese website, Apple quietly revealed that customers can purchase iPhone 15 models at a discount of about 5%, which amounts to up to 500 yuan. The deal will last from January 18 to January 21, just before the Lunar New Year shopping season starts.
Apple’s partners in China had previously offered bigger discounts on the latest iPhone models. And Apple itself discounts its products annually before the Lunar New Year, which is the most significant holiday in China and will be celebrated in February this year.
This is the first time in years that Apple has cut prices for the latest iPhone models. Furthermore, Apple did not even raise the iPhone 15 series prices. Despite that, the latest line of iPhones is struggling in China, and the discounts are seen to be a way to push more customers towards iPhones.
The iPhone 15 series performed poorly in China due to home-grown rivals like Huawei and Xiaomi, which offer competing models. Some companies and government departments have also limited the use of Apple devices.
Sales of iPhones in China are said to drop by 30 per cent in the first week of 2024 and 3 per cent for all of 2023.
Online shopping platforms in China have also been reducing the prices of iPhone 15 models. As reported by Reuters, Pinduoduo has reduced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro prices by up to 16 per cent this year.
Apart from the iPhone 15 models, Apple is offering discounts on a wide range of products, including the latest iPhone models, such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to the company’s website, the MacBook Air‘s price tag has been reduced by as much as 800 yuan. Then, there are discounts available on most iPad models, some AirPods, and the Apple Watch SE.
