On the Day 2 of the Ashes Test, Australia started off well with David Warner and Usman Khawaja at the middle. Just after England skipper Ben Stokes declared on the score of 393/8, Pat Cummins’s team were batting at 14/0 at stumps on Day 1, at the Edgbaston, in Birmingham.
Left-hander Warner started the proceedings on the second day but soon he was struggling when England’s skipper played a masterstroke by bringing in Stuart Broad. Australian opener had a difficult time facing him and as a result, he got out for nine runs in Broad’s over. It was good length delivery by the 36-year-old bowler and the southpaw wanted to drive it but then the ball was cut back and came into his stumps through an inside edge.
Interestingly, Broad and Warner have a long history that started back during the 2019 Ashes, which was the time when Australia last played in England. During the 2019 series, Broad dismissed Warner eight times. Talking about Ashes 2023, this is the 15th time that Broad has eliminated David in the longest format of the game. Moments after Warner’s departure, Broad once again took a wicket, and this time he trapped number three batter Marnus Labuschagne with the second ball of the same over for a golden duck.
Twitter went berserk moments after Broad cleaned up Warner and Labuschagne. Here’s how the social media giant reacted.
David Warner – apart from 1 inning has barely scored for over a year. He is a liability in the field – can no longer throw so is planted at 1st slip where he drops more than he catches. & he wants to go out on his own terms. Drop him. #Ashes2023

Marnus Labuschagne always seems to be a beast, but in the 9 Tests since his last century, he averages 35, has just 2 50s, and has dipped more than 12 runs form his career strikerate … this might be the slump England really need to take the Ashes.
