Australia captain Pat Cummins has lauded Josh Hazlewood for his incredible bowling in the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne. Hazlewood picked just one wicket in the final innings of the Test match, but his dismissal of Babar Azam turned out to be one of the biggest points of the game.
Australia vs Pakistan, Boxing Day Test: HIGHLIGHTS
Babar, batting at 41, failed to block Hazlewood’s inswinger, which shattered into the top of his off stump. Cummins, while speaking in the press conference, called it a massive moment and lauded the pacer for finding another gear in his spell.
“That (Babar Azam’s wicket) was huge. For the major part of the day, he (Josh Hazlewood) was stuck down the wind, but, he just took it upon himself, that was huge and went up another gear I think. He showed his class. I think he has got Babar’s wicket a fair few times but that one is top of the list I reckon,” Cummins said at the press conference.
Australia vs Pakistan, 2nd Test: Match Report
Pakistan were on pole position to give a proper fight to Australia after Shan Masood and Babar Azam put a 61-run stand between themselves. After Masood’s dismissal, Babar Azam had continued his innings and was looking comfortable on Day 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hazlewood’s inswinger put Babar in trouble and changed the complexion of the game.
Australia pacers dominated from there on and bar a 57-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman did not trouble the hosts much. The Australian team wrapped up the game by 79-run margin to clinch a series win with one game still in hand.
Australia and Pakistan would not travel to Sydney to play a dead rubber. Pakistan will look to avoid a clean sweep as it could have a big impact on the World Test Championship points table.
