Cameron Green has replaced David Warner in the Australia playing XI for the opening Test against the West Indies, which is set to be played from Wednesday, January 17 at the Adelaide Oval. George Bailey, the Chair of Selectors, put forth the development around Green.

“Cameron Green will come into the playing XI for the Test in Adelaide in a squad also containing Scott Boland and Matthew Renshaw,” Bailey was quoted as saying.

Warner recently bid goodbye to Test cricket after playing in the third and final Test against Shan Masood’s Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The 24-year-old Green was a part of the Test series for the Pakistan series, but did not get to play a single match.

In 24 Tests, Green has scored 1075 runs at an average of 33.59 with one hundred and six half-centuries to show for his efforts. He has also picked up 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.34.

Green last played Test cricket in the 2023 Ashes match against Ben Stokes’ England at Old Trafford in Manchester, where he got scores of 16 and 3* and picked up two wickets.

Australia, in the meantime, have added left-handed batter Matt Renshaw to the Test squad as a replacement for Warner. However, it is not yet confirmed if he will open the batting with Usman Khawaja in the first Test against the Caribbean team.
