The BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma resigned after a sting operation went viral, as per ANI. Sharma was in Kolkata for the Ranji Trophy final and sent his resignation on Friday morning and it has been accepted immediately by the BCCI. According to the sting operation, he alleged that former India captain Virat Kohli attempted to defame the then-president of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, as he believed Ganguly was to blame for his removal as captain of the One Day International (ODI) team.
“No player or selector will be comfortable on sharing a cordial relationship even with well-meaning journalists after this sting as the trust factor has been compromised,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Who is Chetan Sharma?
Chetan Sharma is a former Indian speedster who played for India in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs. At a mere age of 16, Sharma started playing first-class cricket for Haryana. He made his India debut at the age of 18 and with his fifth ball in Test cricket, he scalped the wicket of Mohsin Khan and became the third Indian to pick a wicket in their first over in Test cricket. He also took hat trick in the 1987 World Cup.
Chetan Sharma took up the selector’s role of the Indian cricket team back in 2020. Apart from Sharma, the BCCI has also appointed Abey Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty in the selection panel. But then, after India’s ordinary run in the T20 World Cup 2022, Chetan Sharma’s selection panel was sacked. However, just after a week, the BCCI reappointed former India pacer Chetan Sharma as the chairman of the five-member panel.
