Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that his side will be without the services of Erling Haaland but hinted that Kevin de Bruyne could start in their Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
Haaland has been nursing foot injury and isn’t fully fit and Guardiola has confirmed he will join John Stones in the absentees list for the trip to face the Magpies.
“Jack (Grealish) has been sick, hopefully today he is back, Erling is out and John (Stones) is out. I think that is everything,” Guardiola told a press conference, as quoted by Reuters.
Kevin de Bruyne is getting better now: Guardiola
Guardiola would go on to comment that De Bruyne has been improving well since making his return to the side during the FA Cup third round win over Huddersfield. The Belgian midfielder got an assist in the big win, as he marked his return to the field in fantastic fashion after a long absence.
Guardiola said De Bruyne could start the game against Newcastle.
“Yes. From what I saw yesterday I feel really good, he was dynamic, and the minutes he played was better than the training sessions before the Huddersfield game.”
“He is getting better now, he will have a few days off after this game and can train in Abu Dhabi to be better for the next few months.”
The Manchester City boss also went on to say that his side have a chance to win their fourth Premier League title in a row. Despite an indifferent November, City remain in touching distance with the top of the Premier League.
“Right now, yeah. How many points left? 18 or 19 games… so obviously mathematically possible,” the manager said.
“Is it realistic? At the moment, it’s far away so I don’t know. I will answer this question when we are six, seven games out.”
