Director-turned-actor Anurag Kashyap has reacted to the Made In Heaven 2 plagiarism controversy, saying that he is “scared” when people he cares about are attacked. Kashyap said that he was “affected” by the way Neeraj Ghaywan, one of the directors of Made In Heaven 2, was being “cancelled” on social media.

“I get scared when people I care about and they get attacked,” Kashyap said in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. “I get very affected by many things. I have seen the entire journey of say, for example, [Neeraj] Ghaywan, and how much time he took to speak up, find courage and find a voice to start speaking out. And then saw him get cancelled in a day on social media. I get very affected by that.”

Kashyap also questioned the motives of Yashica Dutt, the author who has accused the makers of Made In Heaven 2 for plagiarism. For the unversed, Dutt has claimed that the makers of the show took her “life’s work” without “permission or credit” in one of the episodes of the show.

“Is this really that big of an issue?” Kashyap asked. “It’s a very debatable issue. Anybody can debate. If it’s really that big an issue then why are you attacking that other person, who before you said that I use this word? Then you’re looking for validation, then you’re not really concerned about the issue. Because then you can’t be two-sided. You’re also attacking this guy, and you’re attacking the guy who before you said something in a blog. So you are just looking for validation. For me, it looks like an opportunist. Nothing more than that.”

Readers may recall that Sumit Baudh, the author of an article that was also cited by the makers of Made In Heaven 2 as a source of inspiration for the episode in question, has also called out Dutt’s “hypocrisy”. Baudh has said that Dutt did not credit him in her book, which was published in 2019, which further escalated a war of words among the two writers on social media.
