Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently opened up about the challenges faced in trusting box office collections due to the prevalence of inflated figures and a lack of transparency in reporting.

In a candid conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Adarsh shared his concerns about the disparity between actual numbers known to producers and distributors and the information disseminated to the public, particularly through tweets and social media posts.

Adarsh admitted that the common man often relies on social media updates for information, leading to misinformation and misconceptions about a film’s success or failure. In light of this situation, he has chosen to refrain from confronting such discrepancies to avoid getting entangled in unnecessary controversies.

Acknowledging the importance of credibility in his profession, Adarsh revealed that he has taken the step of withholding numbers for a few films, including highly anticipated projects like Adipurush. By doing so, he aims to preserve the integrity and authenticity of his analysis and reporting.

Adarsh also mentioned that it never happened in the past while stating that he has dealt with the biggest of actors of that time from Amitabh Bachchan to Dharmendra and filmmakers Manmohan Desai to Yash Chopra. He said, “But in today’s time, I really find (it) amusing the fact that the producer knows the numbers, the distributor knows the numbers, we know the numbers and then when you write something and there are these people on social media who say that this film is in profit.”
