Filmmaker Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2 has taken the box office by storm right from the day it released on August 11. Starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, the movie is the sequel to the 2001 historic blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. But despite the film achieving such glory, Ameesha Patel has said that the fans wanted to see more of Tara Singh (Sunny) and Sakeena (Ameesha)’s romance, which they couldn’t in Gadar 2.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha said, “Their (fans’) hunger hasn’t been fulfilled. They want to see Tara and Sakeena more together. This time we had to be selfless actors and give Tara-Sakeena moments a backseat because we had to focus on making a different kind of film. Sakeena cannot go and get caught in Pakistan yet again. Neither could Tara take her to Pakistan again and put her in danger, knowing that she is Ashraf Ali’s daughter. That’s why the first half belonged to me and second half to Sunny. We said we are okay as we do understand that as seasoned actors.”

Ameesha also said that she would not accept Gadar 3 if there is not much screentime for Tara and Sakeena together. “Not only will I make it clear during the narration, but for any reason if Tara and Sakeena are not there much together, I will reject the film. I will not do it only. I will not disappoint my fans because I know what they felt was lacking this time around and we owe it to them. At the end of the day, they are coming for Tara and Sakeena. Their love and attachment are for Tara and Sakeena. You cannot have Titanic without Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Because of this, the NRI audiences haven’t caught on to the film like they did for part 1,” she said.

Ameesha also said that her and Sunny Deol’s fitness level is one of the biggest strongpoints of the Gadar franchise. “One feedback we have received is that ‘Actors fit hai toh film hit hai.’ There has been tremendous talk about Sunny’s fitness and my beauty. Everybody has said that no matter who the director is and what the film is, if your hero and heroine do not look convincing, good looking and well-kept, there is no power on earth, no dialogue baazi, action or romance that can save a film,” said the actress.

She added, “Sunny has been so super-fit; he is looking dynamic. He has given a run for the money for any young actor. He doesn’t need to rip off his clothes and show his muscles. His whole personality has dum. He is in one torn costume in the entire second half of the film (Gadar 2). At the same time, Sakeena is beautiful. People have said that I look like Utkarsh’s sister or asked if I am his stepmom. It’s because of the fitness that the romance looks so natural and magical.”

Ameesha added that she is pleased with the success of Gadar 2. “Of course, we all are very, very happy at this humongous success that the Gods above and audiences below have given us,” she said.
