Former South Africa captain and current RCB skipper Faf du Plessis has hinted at making an international cricket return ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the USA.

Du Plessis last played for South Africa in December 2020 and has since become a globetrotter, playing in various franchise leagues across the world. After winning the IPL with CSK in 2021, the 39-year-old was bought by RCB in the 2022 auction, and he was also given the captaincy of the side.

Since joining the Bengaluru-based outfit, Du Plessis has scored 1198 runs across two seasons. The 2023 season saw the opening batter hit 730 runs in 14 matches with 8 fifties to his name.

South Africa coach Rob Walter had hinted that the door wasn’t closed for Du Plessis to make a return. The former Proteas skipper has now lifted the lid on his potential return to the international circuit.

The 39-year-old said to the Abu Dhabi T10 League that he does believe he can return to the Proteas and he has been in talks about the same for the past couple of years. Du Plessis said that it was a topic he had discussed with Walter.

“I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach. Watch this space,” said Du Plessis.

Du Plessis also said that he is doing a lot of hard work to ensure that he is looking after his body.

“I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world.”
