The agent, driving a blue Chevy Malibu containing body armor and a radio, was reportedly held at gunpoint by two assailants.
Fortunately, the FBI employee emerged physically unharmed from the incident, and the stolen vehicle was discovered about 30 minutes later in the 1000 block of 15th Street, Southeast.While no arrests have been made in connection with this case, theMetropolitan Police Department‘s Carjacking Task Force, in collaboration with the FBI’s Washington field office, is actively investigating the incident.
This alarming event occurs against the backdrop of a significant surge in carjackings in the nation’s capital, with over 900 cases reported in 2023 alone. MPD data reveals that a staggering 77% of these carjackings involve firearms, intensifying concerns about the safety of residents and law enforcement personnel.
