NEW DELHI: Young Rajasthan Royals pacer Avesh Khan held his nerves to deliver an outstanding final over, handing Delhi Capitals their second successive defeat of the IPL 2024 season in Jaipur on Thursday.
Needing 17 off the last over, Delhi could all manage 4 runs courtesy fine yorker length deliveries by Avesh as Rajasthan registered 12-run win, their second of the season.

Explaining his approach, Avesh, who returned figures of 1/29, clearly stated that his plan was clear to back his strengths and focus was on the execution.

“My plan was clear, one side was longer and I wanted to bowl wide yorkers. I gave myself 5 seconds every ball to think and then execute the plan. If the batters play a good shot, it’s good for him, but I always back my yorkers,” Avesh said at the post-match presentation.

“We have Boult, Burger and Sandy, I’ve learnt a lot from them. The team management and Kumar Sangakkara have supported us a lot and have made us not worry too much about the fear of failure.
“I always want to improve, I want to invent new types of deliveries in T20s. I rest and relax well, work hard in the nets and that has allowed me to improve my skills,” Avesh added.

In a thrilling encounter, Riyan Parag‘s sensational unbeaten knock of 84 runs from just 45 balls propelled the Rajasthan Royals to a remarkable victory.
Facing a challenging total, Parag exhibited remarkable batting prowess, smashing seven fours and six sixes on his way to achieving his highest IPL score. His stellar innings played a pivotal role in the Royals’ recovery from a precarious position of 36 for 3 in the eighth over, eventually posting a formidable total of 185 for 5.
In response, Delhi opener David Warner showcased a valiant effort with a brisk 34-ball 49. However, the Capitals (173/5) faltered under pressure, succumbing to the clinical bowling performance of the Royals.
Despite a late resurgence led by Tristan Stubbs, who contributed an unbeaten 44 runs, it proved insufficient to overhaul the target.
Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal were the pick of the bowlers for the Royals, each claiming two wickets.
