NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fulfilled their ambition to lift the silverware as they clinched victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final against Delhi Capitals. The highly anticipated final unfolded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, witnessing RCB’s long-awaited trophy moment with a resounding eight-wicket win.
Shreyanka Patil, the off-spinner for RCB, emerged as the standout performer of the night, cementing her place as the leading wicket-taker in the WPL.With an impressive tally of 13 scalps, Patil played a pivotal role in securing victory for her team.

Following their win, emotions ran high as Patil shared her sentiments during the RCB Unbox 2024 event on Tuesday. Meeting with RCB’s legendary former captain, Virat Kohli, Patil expressed her gratitude for the team’s success. Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Patil wrote: “Started watching cricket cos of him. Grew up dreaming to be like him. And last night, had the moment of my life. Virat said, “Hi Shreyanka, well bowled.” He actually knows my name (three grimacing face emojis).”

In the lead-up to the final match of the WPL 2024, Marizanne Kapp from Delhi Capitals held the title of the leading wicket-taker. However, during the decisive game, a stellar performance by the Karnataka native, Shreyanka Patil, altered the narrative. With an exceptional bowling spell, Patil secured four crucial wickets while conceding just 12 runs, surpassing Kapp to claim the top spot as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s second edition. Apart from this, her consistent excellence with the ball not only propelled her team, RCB, to glory but also earned her the prestigious title of the emerging player of the season.
While speaking exclusively to TimesofIndia.com last September, the 21-year-old expressed her admiration for Kohli, saying, “Virat Kohli has been my inspiration from day one since I started playing cricket. He’s the main reason why I picked up the sport. It’s just the vibe that he creates wherever he is. So that is something very special; it’s just not the cricket bits. I kind of see everything and then, the aggression on the field is something which I really admire.”
