NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer lauded the versatile performance of all-rounder Sunil Narine after securing a memorable victory against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasizing his pivotal role in the game, particularly in clearing the infield.
In a captivating display of batting prowess, KKR emerged triumphant with a commanding seven-wicket win over RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, marking themselves as the first team to clinch victory away from home in this IPL season.

Contributing to the team’s success, Iyer showcased his batting prowess with an unbeaten innings of 39 off 24 balls, featuring two boundaries and two maximums, at a striking rate of 162.5.

Reflecting on the match, Iyer acknowledged the astute analysis of the pitch conditions by teammate Andre Russell, who adapted his bowling strategy accordingly.
“The way Russell came in and realized the wicket wasn’t giving much from bowlers, and went to slower ones, analyzing the conditions on the spot was pleasing to the eye,” Iyer remarked during the post-match presentation.

Furthermore, Iyer highlighted the clarity of communication within the team, particularly noting Narine’s understanding of his role when opening the batting.

“See when Narine comes in to open, he knows he has one job which is to clear the infield,” Iyer explained.
Despite the early success in the tournament, Iyer maintained a grounded perspective, expressing his focus on enjoying each other’s success and taking one game at a time.

“I’m not expecting much at this point of time – it’s just the start of the tournament. Want to enjoy each other’s success – that’s the plan for now,” he added.
KKR effectively chased down RCB’s competitive 183-run target, guided by strategic communication and stellar performances from key players like Narine and Iyer.
