Whether it’s a typo, an embarrassing autocorrect mishap, or simply a message sent in the heat of the moment, the ability to retract a message can be a lifesaver. Fortunately, Facebook Messenger offers a feature that allows users to “unsend” messages, giving them a chance to correct their mistakes and maintain a sense of control over their digital conversations. Here’s how to unsend a message on Facebook Messenger, but there’s a crucial detail to remember: you can only unsend messages within a limited window of time.
Unsending on mobile app (Android/iPhone):
1. Open the Facebook Messenger app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. Navigate to the conversation containing the message you want to unsend.
3. Locate the message: Find the specific message you sent by scrolling through the chat history.
4. Tap and hold the message until a menu appears.
5. Select “Remove.” You’ll see two options: “Remove for You” and “Unsend for Everyone.”
6. Choose “Unsend for Everyone” to remove the message from both your chat and the recipient’s chat.
Unsending on desktop website:
1. Go to the Facebook website and log in to your account.
2. Click on the Messenger icon (speech bubble symbol) in the top right corner.
3. Open the chat conversation containing the message you want to unsend.
4. Hover your mouse cursor over the message you want to remove.
5. Click on the three dots (…) that appear next to the message.
6. Select “Remove.” Similar to the mobile app, you’ll see “Remove for You” and “Unsend for Everyone.”
7. Choose “Unsend for Everyone” to remove the message from both sides of the conversation.
Important note:
* You can only unsend messages within 10 minutes of sending them. After that window closes, the option to unsend disappears.
* The recipient might still see the message if they receive a notification before you unsend it, or if they haven’t opened the Messenger app within the 10-minute window.
* Facebook Messenger will notify the recipient that you unsent a message. They’ll see a notification indicating that you removed a message.
