Speaking at the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that Jaiswal would not be playing the match in Mohali, despite head coach Rahul Dravid confirming that Rohit and Jaiswal would open the batting for India in a pre-match press-conference on Wednesday, January 10.
“Winning is the most important thing. Sanju, Avesh, Jaiswal and Kuldeep are not playing,” said Rohit at the toss.
The BCCI later confirmed that Jaiswal had a sore right groin, due to which he was left out of India’s team in the first T20I.
India will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series at home. India has an unblemished record against Afghanistan in the shortest format of the game, having won four of their five encounters with one ending in a no-result.
