Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his second hundred of the series in India’s ongoing third Test match against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday (February 17). The left-handed batter got to the three figures mark of 122 deliveries after taking time initially in his innings to get his eye and assess the conditions. Once set, the left-handed unleased a range of strokes as India piled on the runs quickly and accelerated the run-scoring.

Soon after the hundred though, the 22-year-old was seen complaining of a back pain and seemed to have pulled off a muscle at the outset. While there is no official word on his injury, Jaiswal looked determined to continue after receiving some treatement on the field but the team management asked him to come back to the dressing room with two more Test matches remaining in the series. Jaiswal eventually got retired hurt for 104 off 133 deliveries.

Talking about the match, it was India’s day all the way in Rajkot set up by their bowling performance. England, who started the day at 207/2, were eventually bundled out for 319. It started with Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picking three wickets between themselves in the first session with the spinner striking twice. In the second session, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja wrapped up the England tail, giving the Three Lions no chance whatsoever to try and give a lower order boost to their innings.

Siraj finished with a four-wicket haul as India took a 126-run first-innings lead. In their second innings, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma for 19 when the scoreboard read 30 runs. However, thereafter it was a 155* partnership between Jaiswal and Shubman Gill that sealed India’s day. Gill remains unbeatean on 65 off 120 and will resume India’s innings with nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav when play begins on Day 3. India currently lead by 322 runs, having posted 196/2 in their second innings.
