NEW DELHI: Team India‘s rampaging run at the ODI World Cup continued with a one-sided 100-run win over defending champions England in Lucknow on Sunday.
The crushing win was India’s sixth straight victory in the ongoing edition as Jos Buttler and co. were blown away in their chase of 230 on a challenging Ekana surface.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami breathed fire in their magical opening spells after Rohit Sharma‘s rearguard 87 as England folded for 129 inside 35 overs.
The win is now India’s 59th win in World Cups as the team went past New Zealand’s record of 58 victories at the cricketing extravaganza.

Only Australia (73) now have won more wins than India in the ODI World Cup.
While India achieved a remarkable feat with Sunday’s win, England, on the other hand, registered four straight defeats at the World Cup for the first time ever.

World Cup 2023: India beat England by 100 runs, Rohit Sharma is Player of the Match

Rohit Sharma’s superb 87 and Suryakumar Yadav’s brisk 49 took India to a fighting 229 for 9 after England opted to bowl first.
While chasing, England slumped to 52 for five and never recovered from there to eventually fold in the 35th over. Only one batter — Liam Livingstone (27) — could cross the 20-run mark in the chase.
With the defeat, England are now virtually out of semifinal contention while India, the only unbeaten side in the tournament, are almost certain for a final-four finish.
