By India Today Web Desk: Former India opener Wasim Jaffer is hoping for better conditions in the Ahmebad T20I, set to be played on Wednesday, 1 February. Batters from both teams – India and New Zealand have struggled against spin in the first two matches.
New Zealand infact, were restricted to just 99 runs at Lucknow, while India took 19.5 overs to chase down the total. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said that he hopes to see a good game of cricket in Ahmedabad.
“I feel Ahmedabad will have better batting conditions. I feel it will be a good game. I’ll be surprised if there is so much spin because generally, we get to see a lot of good games in Ahmedabad. Probably a score around 160-170 is what I am expecting and the pitch to play a lot better compared to the last two games,” Jaffer said.
Both captains have come out and criticised the pitch after the matches and have said that it took them by surprise. Hardik Pandya has been vocal in his criticism and called the pitch sub-par for a T20I game.
“It will be a big crowd in Ahmedabad and hopefully they will get to see a very good game. Hopefully, India wins the series there,” Jaffer said.
The India batters have faced problems at the top and have not been able to put on decent scores. Jaffer is of the opinion that these are anomalies, since the pitches were very poor in the first two games.
“They need to forget what happened in the last two games. It doesn’t often happen that you get back-to-back pitches like this. They need to get it out of the system. Come out with a fresh mindset, be aggressive like they have been so far and put their best foot forward for the third T20I,” Jaffer concluded on the batters.
