NEW DELHI: In their attempt to bring a third ODI World Cup trophy home, India’s next challenger in the round-robin phase of the ongoing edition will be neighbours Pakistan, who are looking to emulate the feat of Imran Khan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team.
The archrivals have gotten off to identical dominating starts in this tournament. Hosts India rallied to beat the most successful World Cup team Australia before decimating Afghanistan, while Pakistan thrashed Netherlands and then followed it up by a heroic 300-plus run-chase to go past Sri Lanka.

Looking at India and Pakistan’s overall World Cup record, two-time winners India enjoy a slightly better run than their archrivals as the two teams meet for the eighth time in an ODI World Cup on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
