Facebook parent Meta is providing more tools to parents that will allow them to control and supervise how their kids interact on Messenger. The new supervision tools can be accessed through the Meta Family Center.
The tools will provide parents with information, like how much time their kids are spending on the app and message settings. The tools, however, will not allow parents to read their teen’s messages, the company said.
Initially, the Parental Supervision on Messenger will be available in the US, the UK and Canada, and the company plans to expand to more countries around the world in the coming months. The company also says that the tools will add more features to Parental Supervision on Messenger over the next year. The update is a part of the company’s “work to establish Family Center as one central place where parents and guardians can find resources and tools to help manage their teens’ experiences across Meta technologies”.
Tools to limit unwanted interaction on Instagram
Meta also said that it is introducing new tools to limit unwanted interactions in Instagram direct messages (DM) and Messenger.
Furthermore, Instagram will send teens a notification when they have spent 20 minutes on Facebook, pushing them to take time away from the app and set daily time limits.
“We’re also exploring a new nudge on Instagram that suggests teens close the app if they are scrolling Reels at night,” the company said.

Quiet Mode available globally
In January this year, Meta launched Quiet mode which will help people focus on their work. When enabled, people won’t receive any Instagram notifications, their profiles’ activity status will change to let people know about this and the app will automatically send an auto-reply when someone sends users a DM.
Quiet mode was initially available in the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and it is now available globally.
