Apple has released the first beta version of the upcoming iOS 17.2 update. This update includes a range of exciting features such as access to the new Journal app, which Apple has been developing, and the ability to share playlists with friends, who can add songs.
The beta version is currently available only to developers, but it is expected to be released to public beta testers soon. iOS 17.2 is expected to be made available to the public in the weeks to come.
Journal app
The Journal app, which was announced as part of iOS 17, is now available in iOS 17.2. With the Journal app, users can record their daily activities and thoughts. Apple provides optional prompts that can be used as inspiration. Additionally, Journal entries can include images, voice recordings, and location tags.
Collaborative playlists in Apple Music
If you’re an Apple Music user, now you can make a playlist that others can add songs to. Aside from this, Apple Music now creates a “Favourites” playlist with all the songs you’ve marked as favourites. Also, users can use the Focus Filter to disable the Listening History feature.
React to messages with stickers
Users can now add a sticker response to any chat bubble by long pressing on it. To add a sticker, tap on “Add Sticker” and choose either a sticker or an emoji to apply to the corner of an iMessage. You can still drag a sticker or an emoji onto any message bubble, but the new sticker response feature is much quicker and more expressive.
Translate using the Action Button
Apple has introduced a new option for the Action Button on iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max, which enables them to use the Translate option on the Action Button. This feature uses the languages that you have already set up in the Translate app.
iMessage Contact Key Verification
iOS 17.2 developer update brings the iMessage Contact Key Verification to iPhones, which is designed for high-risk individuals. It prevents unauthorised access to conversations and verifies identities using a Contact Verification Code during in-person meetings or FaceTime calls.
New weather and digital clock widgets
New weather widgets have been added with more information. These widgets include Details, Daily Forecast, and Sunrise/Sunset. Also, a new Digital Clock widget can be added to the Home Screen or Lock Screen.
AirPlay Receiver
The update adds an “AirPlay Receiver” setting that will enable users to stream or share content from the Vision Pro headset to their iPhone. This feature could potentially pave the way for AirPlay, which will allow users to play content from their iPhone or iPad on any AirPlay-enabled smart TV, which could be especially useful in hotel rooms.
Other new iOS 17.2 features
Apple has added a “Body” section for customising Memoji, a “Fast Fade” option for the Books app, and a rainbow-coloured text for your name in Contact Poster. A new “Local Awareness” option for emergency alerts now uses your location. The separate tabs for Movies and TV shows have been removed from the Apple TV app. Finally, the News app now supports Live Activities.
