VISAKHAPATNAM: Struggling to find the winning touch, Delhi Capitals will face a tough challenge when they take on in-form Chennai Super Kings at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The Capitals have made this port city their home ground for the first two games and also had their preseason training here. They need to play out of their skins against Super Kings, a team they have failed to beat in their last four outings.Just like when IPL began, all eyes will be on Rishabh Pant, who has regained full fitness to lead the side and also keep wickets. However, with their batters not firing as a unit, Capitals suffered a four-wicket loss to Punjab Kings and suffered a 12-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals.
It was once again left to David Warner (78) to do the bulk of the scoring, while Mitchell Marsh (43) failed to convert his starts. Local lad Ricky Bhui knows the conditions here like the back of his hand.
Having made it to the Capitals’ playing XI after an impressive domestic season 234 runs in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament with a strike rate of 184 and 902 runs in Ranji Trophy this season the Andhra skipper had poor returns of 3, 0 in the first two games. After what transpired in Jaipur and seeing how Nandre Burger exposed Bhui, it remains to be seen if he gets another chance or the Capitals replace him with Prithvi Shaw.
In the bowling department, but for Axar Patel, the rest struggled. South Africa’s Anrich Nortje, returning to competitive cricket after six months, looked rusty conceding 48 runs in his four overs, putting a huge burden on Kuldeep Yadav.
In contrast, Super Kings have made a strong start, defeating GT by 63 runs and RCB by six wickets. Rachin Ravindra has made an instant impact and Shivam Dube seems to have ironed out his shortcomings against the short ball.
The likes of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell will also pose a serious threat to the Capitals’ bowlers.
