NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer‘s pre-toss ritual of kissing the coin didn’t bring him luck during the IPL 2024 encounter against Rajasthan Royals at the iconic Eden Gardens on Tuesday. Despite his superstitious habit, Iyer found himself on the losing side of the coin toss.
This was the third time Iyer did the unusual act at the toss in this IPL. Prior to today’s match, his unique strategy had already yielded positive results on two occasions.By winning the toss and choosing to field first, Iyer’s team secured victories in both previous instances.
Toss presenter and former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar took a quick note of Iyer’s act and made hilarious remark, “I saw him he actually kissed the coin before flipping it and he still lost it,” he said while asking RR’s skipper Sanju Samson‘s decision after winning the toss.

“We would like to bowl first. Might be better to chase on this. Very much excited to be back in Eden Gardens, there’s a great vibe in the stadium. Jos and Ash are available for this game, so they are coming back,” Samson said after winning the toss.
Iyer said they would also have bowled first if we won the toss.
“Would have loved to bowl as well based on the last game, on how the ball moved around. Whenever he (Narine) comes in, he is hard to read and he’s got that poker face all throughout, we want him to perform the way he has. We are playing the same team,” Iyer said.
IPL: Points Table | Orange Cap | Purple Cap
The Rajasthan Royals are currently sitting at the top of the IPL standings with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.767. They have won five matches while losing another.
Meanwhile, KKR have played five games this season, winning four and losing one. KKR are second in the IPL standings with eight points and an NRR of +1.688, according to the RR’s official website.
