The U19 Women’s Team recently became the World Champions by emerging victorious in the inaugural season of the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup in South Africa. The team led-by Shafali Verma beat England in the finals by 7 wickets to hand India their first world title in women’s cricket. Soon after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a sum of INR 5 crore for the winning team.
The squad which lifted the T20 World Cup on January 29 (Sunday) was felicitated by the Indian Cricket Board at an event organised before the final T20I between the India and New Zealand Men’s Teams at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Women’s Premier League Is Going To Be The Biggest Thing: Tendulkar
Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar was the Chief Guest for the ceremony and even delivered a motivational speech, inspiring the victorious U-19 squad.
After congratulating the side for the win, he told the players how they have now given dreams to many young girls around the world.
“By winning this World Cup, you have given a dream to young girls in India, to represent the country,” Tendulkar said.
“The beginning of the WPL is going to be the biggest thing. I believe in equality for men and women, and not just in sports. There should be equal opportunity,” he added.
The BCCI even shared a video of his speech.

The skipper of the team that lifted the trophy also collected the INR 5 Crore cheque, a prize which the Board had announced for the team and the support staff post India’s dominant victory in the summit clash.
