Microsoft is set to integrate the new Bing Voice Chat feature into the Edge browser on a desktop. This new update will allow users to ask the Bingchatbot questions using their voice — and it will respond in a voice of its own. The feature is already available on the Edge mobile app. The desktop version will also allow users to select the microphone button on Bing’s chat box and then ask their questions aloud.Recently, Microsoft has noted that its chatbot currently supports a handful of languages. This includes English, Japanese, French, German and Mandarin. The company also adds that additional languages are “on the way.”
How this can replace Cortana
The company has already announced its decision to discontinue Cortana on Windows later this year. Microsoft’s move to bring voice mode to Bing Chat on a desktop can be a good replacement for the same. Cortana helped users to set timers, create reminders, open applications and more using voice commands. The company claims that Bing and its AI-powered Copilot which is being built into Windows 11 are more capable replacements.
As Microsoft makes Windows Copilot available for end users, it will be available directly in the taskbar. Users will be able to access it for general questions, ask it to summarise the content they’re viewing, adjust their PC’s settings and more.

New Bing available for more users
Last month, Microsoft opened up the new AI-powered Bing to more people by moving from Limited Preview to Open Preview and eliminating the waitlist for trial. The company has also switched from text-only search and chat to more visual-rich results with image/video answers. Moreover, the new multimodal support is coming shortly.
Microsoft has also moved from single-use chat/search sessions to multi-session productivity experiences. Users can also access the chat history and persistent chats within Edge. Apart from this, the company has also opened up platform capabilities for developers and third parties to build on top of Bing to help people take action on their queries and complete tasks.
