Microsoft is planning to make it better to use monitors with Windows 11 PCs. Microsoft has posted a new blog post update on the Insider’s website that mentions that it has started testing a new update for Windows 11 operating system that comes with an automatic refresh rate adjustment feature.

Works with monitors
According to the report, the automatic refresh rate feature works with multiple monitors and it adjusts the refresh rate based on the content being played on the monitors. The company has mentioned in the blog post that they’ve improved refresh rate logic to allow refresh rates on different monitors, depending on the refresh rate for each monitor and content shown on the screen,”

This will help while multitasking like playing games and watching videos at the same time.
To reduce resource consumption
Another major highlight of this new feature Microsoft has talked about is the — zero RPM mode on Nvidia cards. This means, with this feature, it is likely that the GPU will run idle and will keep the fans running at a lower RPM or completely standstill. This will improve the performance as well as the battery life of the Windows laptops.
Usually, GPUs on Windows PCs keep running even when watching videos on an external display that supports a high refresh rate. Adding more monitors puts added load on the GPU and that requires efficient cooling to sustain the performance. With this new feature, Microsoft aims to bring down consumption and keep things idle for as long as possible.
In addition to this, Microsoft has also made some changes to the Dynamic Refreh Rate support for laptops. Going forward, Windows 11 will automatically reduce the refresh rate if the battery saver is turned on.
Do note that the feature is currently in the testing phase in Windows 11 Insider Preview builds and it is expected to make an appearance in the final build in the coming months.
