Nikon has launched the Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S, a super-telephoto prime lens that is compatible with full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.
The Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S is an S-Line telephoto prime lens offering optical performance and portability with a total length of 278 mm and weight of approximately 1,390 g, the lightest in its class, claims Nikon. The lens’ centre of gravity closer to the body side means that users are much less aware of its weight, making the NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S suitable for situations that require easy lens control and stability, such as motorsport races, as well as for the hand-held shooting of various fast-moving subjects such as wild birds.
Key features
Hand-held shooting is made possible with a total length of approximately 278 mm, says Nikon. Chromatic aberration is significantly reduced with the adoption of PF lens and ED glass elements. In addition, the adoption of an SR lens element controls short-wavelength light, the effects of which are difficult to correct, achieving precise chromatic aberration compensation.
It is equipped with four lens Fn2 buttons and one lens Fn button that can be customised with assignment of a wide variety of functions. Furthermore, the lens is quipped with Normal VR mode, which demonstrates superior 5.5-stop stabilisation; as well as Sport VR mode, which stabilises the viewfinder display with continuous shooting, making it easier to track rapidly moving subjects.
When paired with a compatible body, Synchro VR can be activated to achieve up to 6.0-stop stabilisation by combining in-camera VR and lens VR. The Nikkor lens comes equipped with a memory recall function that instantly recalls a focus position stored in advance by pressing the button to which the function has been assigned.
