After winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Bangladesh managed to post 193 runs despite half-centuries from senior batters Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan. While the wicketkeeper-batter scored 64 off 87, the veteran all-rounder scored 53 off 57. However, the timing of their wickets as well as the failure of the other batters to put their hand up against a world-class bowling attack meant that the Bangla Tigers could not even cross the 200 run match in this Super Fours fixture.

For the home team, it was Haris Rauf who was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figures of 4 for 19. Naseem Shah picked 3 for 34 after suffering an injury scare early on in the innings and Shaheen Shah Afridi also picked up a wicket, giving away 42 runs in his 7 overs. Faheem Ashraf and Iftikhar Ahmed were the other wicket takers for the Babar Azam-led side.

Bangladesh lost early wickets and then wickets in a heap towards the end but it was a 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Mushfiqur and Shakib that helped them get to the total that they did. The duo were in the middle for 120 balls together. Mohammad Naim (20), Litton Das (16), Shamim Hossain (16) and Afif Hossain (12) were the only other Bangladesh batters to score runs in the double figures.

Notably, this is the first Super Fours match after India, Pakistan secured a place for themselves in this round of the continental tournament from Group A while Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were confirmed as the teams to feature in this round of the competition from Group B. Afghanistan came close but eventually fell shot of the qualification mark as they lost to Sri Lanka in their final Group-stage match on Tuesday (September 5). Bangladesh finished second and Sri Lanka were the table toppers in Group B while Pakistan topped Group A.
