On Wednesday, Archers Jyothi Vennam and Ojas Deotale sealed gold, helping India reach to the medal tally of 71 medals at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. India also surpassed their previous best record of 70 medals. Back during the 2018 Jakarta Games, the Indian contingent won 70 medals. On the back of a gold medal in archery, India also equalled their best gold medal tally of 16 it achieved in 2018.
Talking about the same, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elated. He took to his social media handle and wrote, “India shines brighter than ever before at the Asian Games.
“With 71 medals, we are celebrating our best-ever medal tally, a testament to the unparalleled dedication, grit and sporting spirit of our athletes. “
“Every medal highlights a life journey of hard work and passion. A proud moment for the entire nation. Congrats to our athletes.”

The Indian team won its 71st medal after Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale clinched gold in the compound mixed team event in archery, outplaying the South Korean pair of So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon 159-158.
“Historic moment at the Asian Games! With this gold in archery, India’s medal tally at the Asian Games now stands tall at an incredible 71 medals! Our athletes’ dedication and hard work have made this moment possible. Let’s keep the cheers and support going as we aim for even more success,” the Sports Authority of India said in a post on X.
As of now, India have secured 16 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze medals in the Asian Games and they still have a chance to add more medals to their tally as four days are still left for the event. As usual, China is dominating the medals tally list as they have won 164 gold, 90 silver, and 46 bronze medals. Japan and South Korea are second and third on the list.
