Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Monday to celebrate the phenomenal success of Indian musicians at the 2024 Grammy Awards. In a tweet, he congratulated tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, flute player Rakesh Chaurasia, singer Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram on their wins.

The Prime Minister further acknowledged their dedication and its inspiring impact, stating, “These achievements are a testament to the hard work you keep putting in. It will also inspire the new generation of artists to dream big and excel in music.”

Following the Prime Minister’s tweet, Rakesh Chaurasia expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you very much Honourable PM @narendramodi ji. Your wishes truly mean a lot. I feel extremely happy and proud as an Indian to bring 2 Grammys home.. A surreal and overwhelming feeling. Thank you to all for your love and blessings.”

Hussain led the night with a total of three awards, including the prestigious Best Global Music Album for ‘This Moment‘ with his fusion group Shakti. He also received accolades for ‘Pashto‘ and ‘As We Speak‘ in the Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album categories, respectively.
Chaurasia’s two awards came as part of his collaboration with American banjo player Bela Fleck and American bassist Edgar Meyer for ‘Pashto‘ and ‘As We Speak.’ Mahadevan, Rajagopalan, and Selvaganesh, Hussain’s fellow members in Shakti, each received a Grammy for ‘This Moment.’
