Manchester United have loaned out midfielder Donny van de Beek to German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
The 26-year-old Dutch international, who marked the onset of his tenure with United in 2020, has had limited playing time ever since his move from Ajax. Post his return from Everton where he was on a loan spell in 2022, Van de Beek has only started two matches in the Premier League for United.
His football career took a hit in the first half of 2023 when a ligament injury sidelined him. Despite healing from the injury, Van de Beek only got to play as a late substitute in a single league match. With hopes of increasing his pitch time, the Dutch midfielder is shifting to Germany following only two appearances in the ongoing season for United.
In a statement released by Manchester United, the English club wished Van der Beek the best for his upcoming stint in Germany.
“Van de Beek will be pushing for more playing time in Germany. Everyone at Manchester United wishes Donny all the best in Frankfurt for the rest of the season,” read the statement.
Presently, Eintracht Frankfurt holds the sixth spot in the Bundesliga and is due to face off against Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium in a UEFA Conference League play-off scheduled in February.
Van de Beek played 62 matches for Manchester United and scored only two goals. Furthermore, he represented Everton in seven matches during his loan spell in 2022.
The midfielder was instrumental for Ajax, as they reached the semi-final stage of the Champions League in 2019. Internationally, Van de Beek has played for the Netherlands on 19 occasions, netting three goals.
