The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the entertainment industry, especially on medium-budget films. And in the post-pandemic world, the audience has become picky when it comes to watching a film on the big screen; this has eventually affected the distribution of small-budget films. Speaking of the same recently, Rajkummar Rao shared his thoughts and stated that word of mouth is the best way to promote a film.

It all happened during his conversation with PTI in Mumbai when he was promoting his upcoming release Bheed. The portal quoted Rao saying, “Especially for a medium-budget film, if you do not give them a big canvas experience, you have to give them (the audience) something different. It has to be something engaging for the audience. Only then you can talk about a film. Right now, I feel the only PR that is left is word of mouth.”

Explaining his take further, the Shahid actor further added, “If a film like Kantara can travel the whole country… I may be sitting in Mumbai and then say 10 people are asking me if I have seen Kantara. Just because the film was so good people had to talk about it and then I went to see it. That is the best PR strategy… Make a good film and let the word travel.”

As the conversation progressed, the 38-year-old actor also stated that language is no longer a barrier, while adding, “The good thing is people now also expect us to focus on our stories. All languages tell stories. The story has to be engaging, it has to tell something.”

While concluding, he also spoke about Bheed and said, “The second wave was heartbreaking but India managed to tackle the challenges even as the system in some of the European countries collapsed. There were so many people who wanted to go home, they were stuck… Bheed encapsulates their tale.”

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Bheed is slated to release on March 24. Besides Rajkummar, it also features Ashutosh Rana, Bhumi Pednekar, Kritika Kamra, and Pankaj Kapur.
