The Tata Group chairman emeritus came to the social media platform to bust fake news related to the recent ICC world cup cricket match between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Fake news had been floating regarding his patronage to Afghan cricket player Rashid Khan after Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in a thriller in the ongoing Cricket World Cup Championship.
The 85-year-old business icon categorically said that he had not made any such announcement or offered any reward to any player or gave any suggestions to the International Cricket Council.He also urged his 12.6 million-plus followers to confirm the veracity of messages sent via WhatsApp, and to only follow those that were posted from his official accounts.
“I have made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players. I have no connection to cricket whatsoever. Please do not believe WhatsApp forwards and videos of such nature unless they come from my official platforms,” Tata posted on X.

Ever since Afghanistan defeated Pakistan at the World Cup match in Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, social media has been inundated with messages and improvised videos that fraudulently claim that Tata has announced a Rs 10 crore reward for Rashid Khan in the wake of Afghanistan’s victory.
On Monday, Afghanistan pulled off their second surprise win in the World Cup, and their first-ever win over Pakistan in the 50-over format. The Afghans registered a thumping eight-wicket defeat in Chennai.
Yesterday, Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. Earlier, Afghanistan beat defending champions England in a thrilling game.
