Redmi: Redmi A2 vs Redmi A2+: What difference does the ‘+’ makes for users – Times of India

Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ are the two latest smartphones launched by Xiaomi in India. The company took the wraps off the duo today via a virtual event. Both the smartphones are similar in terms of features and most specifications. The question is what does the ‘+’ mean in the Redmi A2+ and how are both the phones different.
Difference in pricing and variants
Let’s take a look at the pricing of the two smartphones. The Redmi A2 is the cheaper version, of course. It comes in three variants — 2GB + 32GB, 2GB + 64GB and 4GB + 64GB, while the Redmi A2+ is available only in one — 4GB + 64GB variant. That’s one difference between the two phones.
They also differ in terms of pricing. The Redmi A2 price starts at Rs 5,999 for the base variant. The other two variants are priced at Rs 6,499 and Rs 7,499. On the other hand, the Redmi A2+ is priced at Rs 8,499.
Specifications are more or less similar
Both the phones are siblings and they are a lot similar starting from the name to internals. For instance, both Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ feature the same 6.52-inch HD+ display with 720×1600 pixel resolution. This means, the ‘+’ symbol does not mean a bigger display as it is usually the case with other smartphones carrying the ‘+’ or ‘Plus’ moniker. Certainly that’s not the case with Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ here.
The duo are even powered by the same octa-core MediaTek Helio G26 chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM. Also, both the phones offer 64GB storage options. Both come with expandable storage via the hybrid SIM slot.
In fact, both the phones are equipped with exactly sama camera setup of an 8MP sensor at the back and a 5MP selfie camera at the front of the phone. Both also have the same 5000mAh battery with 10W charging support.
What’s the ‘+’ factor with Redmi A2+
The only difference between the two phones and the reason why Xiaomi is charging around Rs 1,000 for the A2+ is fingerprint scanner. The Redmi A2+ is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and the Redmi A2 does not.
