Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klassen was imposed a fine of 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday (May 13). The Protean star admitted to Level 1 offence under Article 2.7 which corresponds to the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
This wasn’t the only bit of sanction from what was match number 58 of the 16th edition of the T20 tournament. LSG’s leg-spinner Amit Mishra was also reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Mishra admitted to Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 which related to the abuse of equipment during the match. One of the tournament’s highest wicket-takers accepted the sanction.
It should be noted that For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Coduct, the decision of the Match Referee is final.
The match became the centre of a controversy after an incident which happened during the SRH innings. In the second over which was being bowled by Avesh Khan, the umpire signalled a no-ball for a waist-high full toss to Abdul Samad. However, the fielding team skipper Krunal Pandya wasn’t happy with the call and decided to take a DRS to challenge the decision. In the replays even though it looked like the ball was above waist height, the TV umpire decided to reverse the decision.
Klassen as well as the home team weren’t much pleased with the decision. Chants of ‘Kohli, Kohli’ began in the stadium with several reports suggesting that even few objects were thrown at the LSG dugout which led to the match being paused for a while before the situation was resolved.
Ultimately, LSG chased down their target of 183 to win the match by 7 wickets and 4 balls to spare. Krunal (2/24) along with Prerak Mankad (64* off 45) and Nicholas Pooran (44* off 13) starrted in Lucknow’s win.
