Renowned filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh has shed light on a surprising moment with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, revealing his unexpected pre-shoot jitters. During a candid conversation on Netflix’s The Director’s Roundtable, Ghosh shared an anecdote about Bachchan’s mic accidentally picking up his nervous murmurs on the first day of a shoot.

“First days of shoot are the most scariest days and you have no clue what you’re doing and we used to shi*t bricks right,”said Ghosh.

Ghosh admitted, “You have no idea what you’re doing, and we used to sweat bullets. One day, we were shooting, it was the first day of the film, and sir (Bachchan) was on set, giving his first shot. His mic was on, and he was muttering to himself, ‘Yar yeh pehla din hai, kitna saal hogaya abhi bhi mujhe itnanervous lagta hai’ (It’s the first day, and even after so many years, I still feel so nervous).”

The conversation then shifted to Ghosh’s own career journey, particularly his bold venture with the critically acclaimed Kahaani. Recalling the film’s genesis, Ghosh shared, “Everyone kind of dissuaded me at that time. ‘Pregnant woman running away in Calcutta? What were you thinking?’ And I think that probably was the biggest step of my career, especially coming out of two mega flops and embarking on something no one believed in.”

“Nobody gave me money to make the film,” Ghosh continuedand added, “But that was good. That’s the biggest risk I ever took.” This audacious gamble paid off, with Kahaanibecoming a commercial and critical success.

Speaking of the professional front, Ghosh’s last directorial project was Jaane Jaan. It starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma, and Jaideep Ahlawat. The suspense thriller was released on Netflix.
