'This Isn't Just India…': Pakistan Legend Slams Harmanpreet Kaur's 'Way Too Much' Behaviour Against Bangladesh In 3rd ODI

Former Pakistan men’s cricket team captain Shahid Afridi slammed India women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for her unruly behavior in India women vs Bangladesh women 3rd ODI in Dhaka. During the ODI, Harmanpreet argued with the umpire before hitting the stumps with her bat after being given out in India’s run chase. She didn’t just stop here as after the match got over, Harmanpreet openly criticized the hosts for ‘unfair and biased’ umpiring throughout the three-match ODI series. And if this was not enough, Harmanpreet irked Bangladeshi team by asking them to call umpires as well for the group photo session where both teams pose together with the ODI series trophy.

Taking note of this, ICC suspended Harmanpreet Kaur for next two international matches. She was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision”. The Indian women’s team skipper was fined 75 percent of her match fee and received four demerit points on her disciplinary record.

Harmanpreet’s behavior was a shock for many in the Indian spectrum and now even Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi has criticised her.

When asked if a harsher penalty should’ve been given to Harmanpreet, Afridi said:

"This is not just India. We’ve seen these things in the past as well. Although, we don’t see this often in women’s cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under ICC. With the punishment, you set an example for the future. You can get aggressive on cricket; controlled aggression is good, but this was a bit too much," Afridi told Samaa TV.

The two-match ban comes at a wrong time for Harmanpreet and for India women’s cricket team who will now be without the services of its captain for the two knockout games in upcoming Asian Games 2023. Now, Harmanpreet would only be able to play Asian Games 2023 final in case India do manage to qualify for the summit clash.
