Ubisoft partnered with Disney for its upcoming open-world title Star Wars Outlaws. The game was announced during the Xbox Showcase 2023 event but the developers didn’t mention any specific launch window. Now, Disney has updated its blog post to confirm that Star Wars Outlaws will be released this year. Ubisoft has also reportedly confirmed that the game will be available within 2024.
The upcoming title is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi movies. Star Wars Outlaws will also introduce Kay Vess, a space scoundrel who has a bounty on her head after she messes up a job. On her crusade, she will be joined by an axolotl-like alien Nix. It will be able to perform certain actions at the player’s command. Nix is similar to the BD-1 droid from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Star Wars Outlaws is set to release across multiple platforms including PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
What the makers have to say about the game
In an interview with Kotaku, the game’s narrative director Navid Khavari said: “This is a character who is just trying to get by—stealing, outwitting and conning folks. I would love for folks playing the game to really get a sense of what it might feel like to step into the underworld.”
The game is set in a time when the Empire is ruling the galaxy and warding off the Rebellion. This is forming a ‘power vacuum’ that allows the underworld to make the best of the opportunity. With Kay and Nix taking on risky contracts and interacting with crime syndicates, the objective of the game will be to build up their reputation.
The report claims that this may be the Star Wars Outlaws’ faction system. This system is expected to open ways to new quest lines and change the characters’ relationship status based on prior interactions.

However, the report doesn’t clearly mention players will be able to join as many factions as they want in a single playthrough. Meanwhile, the game makers have reportedly confirmed that Jabba the Hut will be one of the quest-givers.
In 2023, the gameplay footage of Star Wars Outlaws was unveiled by developer Massive Entertainment. The footage revealed that the protagonist Kay doesn’t have any Jedi powers. This will force her to rely on her blasters or pick up any weapons lying around to fight off enemies.
Meanwhile, players have to rely mainly on a hovering motorcycle that’s equipped with a nitrous booster for a quick push. The motorcycle also comes with the ability to slow down time and target enemies with bullets. This one is similar to the Dead Eye skill available in Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2.
Ubisoft has also reportedly claimed that players will be able to freely travel between planets in their ‘Trailblazer’ ship. In this game, players may often have to face smaller fights on the way. The report also claims that ‘Activities’ will be divided across three gameplay experiences. This includes dense cities filled with NPCs and shops, open-world environments like the deserts of Tatooine and outer space.
