Indian swimming’s latest sensation Vedaant Madhavan lived up to the hype and expectations and clinched as many as seven medals at the Khelo India Youth Games. Vedaant, who is the son of actor R Madhavan, secured the pole position in 100m, 200m and 1500m.

Other than Vedaant, swimmer Apeksha Fernandes was also impressive and matched Vedaant’s tally of medals. In fact, while Vedaant managed to win 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals in these games, Apeksha won 6 golds and a silver along with surpassing her personal best record.

Consequently, both Vedaant and Apeksha were congratulated by the 3 Idiots actor. The 52-year-old took to Twitter to also thank the Chief Minister Of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan as well as the Union Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur.

So proud,” the senior Madhavan wrote.

Notably, the Khelo India Youth Games came to an end at the Upper Lake area of the Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Saturday. While Maharashtra with a total of 56 gold, 55 silver and 50 bronze medals were the overall champions, Haryana with 40 gold medals and host Madhya Pradesh with 39 gold medals finished second and third respectively.

This was Madhya Pradesh’s best show ever at India’s “Youth Olympics.” In the previous edition of the Khelo India Youth Games, the state had finished eighth. The closing ceremony was attended by MP CM Chauhan, Anurag Singh Thakur, and the State’s Minster for Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia among other dignitaries.

A Champions bus parade, flagged off from the CM’s Residence itself, was organised before the closing ceremony.
