NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli etched his name in the record books by becoming the second Indian player to complete 300 catches in international cricket.
The star Indian batter got to the landmark when he took Nathan Lyon‘s catch at first slip off Ravichandran Ashwin to end Australia’s first innings on the second day of the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad.
India head coach Rahul Dravid leads the chart with 334 catches in international cricket. Former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin features third on the list having taken 261 catches in his 16-year long career.
When it comes to Test cricket, Kohli surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 108 catches. Dravid also sits atop in the longer format with 210 catches to his name.
Coming to the match, India reached 36 for no loss at stumps, still trailing the tourists by 444 runs.
Skipper Rohit Sharma, on 17, and Shubman Gill, on 18, looked positive and attacked the Australian spinners, who bowled five of the 10 overs before close of play.
