After India lost the World Cup finale to Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that team India played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. Australia thumped India by six wickets in the ODI World Cup final, lifting an unprecedented sixth title.

“Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always,” he posted on X.

He also congratulated the Australian team for their impressive win stating, “Congratulations to Australia on a magnificent World Cup victory! Theirs was a commendable performance through the tournament, culminating in a splendid triumph. Compliments to Travis Head for his remarkable game today.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles arrived in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening to witness the high-stakes ICC Cricket World Cup final match between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The leaders were warmly welcomed by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Gujarat BJP Chief CR Paatil at the airport.

Earlier in the day, the Indian cricket team batted first but faced a challenging situation as they were bowled out for a below-par 240 on a tricky pitch. Australian bowlers displayed their prowess, fulfilling their captain Pat Cummins’ pre-match statement about the satisfaction of silencing a big crowd. A notable moment came when Virat Kohli (54) got played on while attempting to guide a delivery towards the empty cover area, resulting in a significant setback for the Indian team.

Despite the challenging conditions, KL Rahul’s composed innings of 66 off 107 deliveries proved valuable. However, with the difficulty of stroke-making increasing, the Indian batsmen faced a formidable Australian bowling attack. The Indians managed only 13 fours throughout the innings, with skipper Rohit Sharma contributing three sixes.
